Peninsula Hospice Service patient care volunteers provide a range of
services to patients and their carers and families. Volunteers offer
support via activities such as spending time with patients enabling
carers to rest or go out, transporting patients or carers to appointments
or shopping, or simply providing company and conversation.
Patient care volunteers are men and women of all ages and backgrounds
who have great respect for people and their individual needs. Following
an initial interview and assessment, volunteers undertake a special
training program prior to being placed with a patient. Ongoing professional
development of the volunteers is a large component of their time
commitment, ensuring volunteers are well equipped to support a variety
of issues that are faced by patients, carers and families. The PHS
volunteer training program has been accredited by the National Association
for Loss and Grief (NALAG).
Patient care volunteer support is a free service.
Anyone interested in discussing the possibility of becoming a Patient
Care Volunteer may contact the Manager of Volunteers on 9783 6177.
